The UAE Ministry of Culture, Youth and Community Development has been organizing Al Burda Contest since 1425 AH 2004 to honour the memory of the Prophet Mohamed Birthday, (God’s blessing and peace be upon him) each year.
The Ministry endeavors to make Al Burda Award as a leading and distinctive contest on the Islamic world level to celebrate the memory of the Prophet’s Birthday each year, and to honour the winners in diverse contests in the motif of the Prophet’s Birthday (God’s blessing and peace be upon him) and his redolent memoirs.
Al Burda Contest is a poetry contest open to poets from UAE and abroad in Nabaty poetry and classic poetry in pure language commending the Prophet (God’s blessing and peace be upon him) and his redolent memoirs, in addition to Arab calligraphy Contest with its traditional and modern categories and an Islamic Illumination (Zakhrafa) Contest on the international level.
The Arabic calligraphy Contest:
1 – Thulth Al-Jaly style. (Classical mode)
Text : (لَقَدْ جَاءَكُمْ رَسُولٌ مِنْ أَنْفُسِكُمْ عَزِيزٌ عَلَيْهِ مَا عَنِتُّمْ حَرِيصٌ عَلَيْكُمْ بِالْمُؤْمِنِينَ رَءُوفٌ رَحِيمٌ) Surat AL Tawba –verse 128
First Prize: 70 000 Dhs
Second Prize: 50 000 Dhs
Third Prize: 40 000 Dhs
3 appreciation awards with a value of 15.000 Dhs each
2 – Al-Nastaleeq style (Classical mode)

Deadline for submitting artworks is 2nd. October 2011. Winners will be honored during the month of Rabea Al Awal 1432 H.
